My background in Foreign Languages and Literatures, my Master’s Degree in Intercultural Studies, combined with years of experience as a freelance translator, allow me to offer specialized linguistic and cultural services. To this expertise, I add the skills I acquired through my degree in Legal Services, ensuring methodological and regulatory accuracy in every project.
My goal is to provide a tailor-made consultancy. This is a “work in progress”, always changing and evolving, like the world we live in. That’s why I never stop studying and learning to improve myself and my work.
Below, I have listed my main areas of expertise, divided into three sectors: the first focusing on linguistics and content creation, and the other two dedicated to research.
If you would like to learn more about my creative projects, you can find further information on the page: The Creative Project.
1. Linguistic Services
Specialized Translation and Localization: I work with all types of materials related to the textile and notions/accessories industry, with a focus on buttons (technical sheets, catalogs, websites, e-commerce). But I don’t stop at the present; I also travel back in time handling the transcription and translation of historical documents, archives and vintage ledgers, ensuring that the original technical terminology is preserved and made accessible today. There are true treasures waiting to be brought back to life!
As a dedicated enthusiast of fiber arts, strengthened also by attending both professional and specialized courses, I also provide linguistic services for patterns (sewing, knitting, crochet, or weaving, for example), guides, kits, as well as industry manuals and software.
Storytelling and Content Creation: In a world increasingly saturated with fast, anonymous content, I help you craft texts that convey your values, your work, and your authentic voice.
2. Historical, Intercultural, and Material Research
Here, I go beyond the purely linguistic sphere, engaging in a true work of “discovery.” I investigate what lies behind a single object, such as the button, using the tools at my disposal—databases and archives, trade magazines, or even patent registries—to trace its history, origin, and material authenticity (e.g., Galalith, Bakelite, Corozo, etc.). The goal is not just to identify an object, but to piece together scattered fragments that offer a glimpse into a specific cross-section of global history and culture.
3. Research and Sourcing: The “Button Scout”
This is also a research-based activity, but with more practical applications. When we watch a film, attend a show, or browse market stalls for a vintage garment, we often underestimate the “power” of buttons. A button can speak volumes about an era, a culture, and the values being communicated. It speaks to us. For this reason, I offer my services to find the perfect detail for your project, whether for film or theater costumes, period restorations, or new collections. While my primary focus is buttons, my research can extend to specific yarns and textiles. A few examples:
- Vintage Archives: Targeted research and sourcing of period buttons, with absolute attention to historical consistency and material authenticity (from Galalith to Lucite). This is an area I am currently focusing on in depth.
- “New Gen” Sustainable Scouting: Identifying modern, ethical, and eco-friendly solutions (bio-based materials, recycled components) specifically designed for slow-fashion brands.
