Dalla Pumpkin Pie ai Bottoni, un Viaggio lungo Sedici Anni

Esattamente sedici anni fa, il 24 marzo 2010, cliccavo “pubblica” per la prima volta. Ero una giovane donna tornata da un anno a Londra e alla ricerca della sua strada nell’intricato mondo delle traduzioni freelance. Il food blogging non era ancora esploso in Italia, ma io avevo scoperto un amore spassionato per la cucina e così mi era venuta l’idea di scrivere un blog di ricette tradotte. Il primo post? Una pumpkin pie.

Ecco spiegata la foto che accompagna questo post. Un ponte tra ieri e oggi: una collezione di bottoni appoggiati su una tovaglietta che ho cucito e ricamato a punto croce con delle zucche. È un omaggio a quel primo post, al lavoro manuale che è sempre stato la mia costante silenziosa e, soprattutto, a quella ragazza piena di sogni. Dopo sedici anni, cerco ancora di realizzarli.

From Pumpkin Pie to Buttons: A 16-Year Journey

Exactly sixteen years ago today, on March 24, 2010, I hit ‘publish’ for the very first time. I was a young woman who had recently returned from a year in London, searching for her path in the tangled world of freelance translation. Food blogging hadn’t quite exploded yet in Italy, but I had discovered a passionate love for cooking, and so the idea of starting a blog for translated recipes was born. The first post? A pumpkin pie.

That explains the photo accompanying this post. It’s a bridge between yesterday and today: a collection of buttons resting on a tablemat I hand-sewed and cross-stitched with pumpkins. It is a tribute to that first post, to the handicrafts that have always been my silent constant, and, above all, to that girl full of dreams. Sixteen years later, I am still trying to make them come true.
